In any setting, strong leadership is essential to the success of the group. Whether in politics, the military, the church, or any other group, when leadership is lacking direction, the whole group suffers. Although a lot has been written about leadership in general, there is another angle to leadership that merits more discussion and awareness.

That is Christian leadership. Christian leadership shares many similarities with other types of leadership but differs in a few fundamental ways. In this article, Dr. Akintayo Emmanuel, president of Hear the Lord Ministries and overseer of God’s Remnant Assembly, shares three key benefits of Christian leadership that differentiates it from other types of leadership.

Expansive Vision

Most brands of leadership have a limited scope of vision. If it is business leadership, often, the scope is limited to growing the company and making more profits. If it is political leadership, the scope is again limited to influencing policy and then trying to get reelected. Christian leadership has a more expansive vision. When you consider it is charged with the very souls of men and women, it has infinitely higher stakes than other types of leadership. Moreover, Dr. Akintayo Emmanuel states, Christian leadership is also charged with assisting in ensuring the wholeness of people in terms of finances, health, and relationships.

Sound Doctrine

Many types of leadership are grounded in management science. When you think of the CEO of a company, their leadership is governed by well-established codes of management. However, while this may be lauded, sometimes, this doctrine (management science) can fall short. In such instances, there is no room to hear from God or to wait on God for a critical decision. Due to this, such types of leadership remove God from the equation. Christian leadership reintroduces God into the leadership equation, says Dr. Akintayo Emmanuel. With God as a major factor and stakeholder in Christian leadership, it is possible to have a greater depth of leadership.

Genuine Compassion

Lastly, Christian leadership is founded on genuine compassion. In contrast, other types of leadership are focused on one bottom line or another, whether profits, performance, or politics. In such cases, those under such leadership suffer from the uncompassionate efforts of those in leadership — Christian leadership does the opposite. It sets people first, looking out for their best interests before pursuing any bottom lines. In this sense, Christian leadership stands head and shoulders above other types of leadership. Those following a Christian leader can always be sure they matter and that the leader has genuine compassion for them.

Towards a Better World

Better people make a better world — that’s the foundation of Christian leadership. All that Christian leadership does is geared towards making better people of those who are under leadership. In this way, Christian leadership’s mandate is to make the world a better place, one person at a time.

Although it may seem this article is saying Christian leadership is the best form of leadership, there is a place for every form of leadership. As each leader fulfills their purpose and works towards the betterment of their fellow human, says Dr. Akintayo Emmanuel, there can rise a better world filled with better people led by better leaders.
