Overseer of God’s Remnant Assembly Akintayo Emmanuel Shares Advice on How to be a Good Steward

Thanks to the internet, learning just about anything — from a new language to a technical skill — is only a click away. However, those who aspire to become a good steward do not need to embrace advanced technology. Instead, they need to immerse themselves in an eternal source that contains all of the instruction they need for what truly matters: The Bible.

According to Dr. Akintayo Emmanuel, the Overseer of God’s Remnant Assembly, there are three particularly insightful passages that speak to the challenges and obligations of being a good steward: Titus 1:7–9, Matthew 6:24, and Romans 14:11–12.

Titus 1:7–9: “For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.”

“Being a good steward is not just something one does, but more essentially, it is something that one is” claims Dr. Akintayo Emmanuel. “Their integrity must be consistent and unwavering, and not intermittent and circumstantial. A person whose actions, thoughts, feelings and attitudes are in alignment with the Word of God is a light unto others, and a blessing in this world.”

Matthew 6:24: “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

But to be a good steward, we must never forget that our primary purpose in life is to serve God at all times, and in all ways.

Romans 14:11–12: “for it is written, As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”

During these times, we should pray and confess our struggles to God. He will always answer our plea and show us the way forward. Often, we know deep inside what to do or what not to do, but we do not want to see the truth. Indeed, we can deceive others and we can deceive ourselves, but we can never deceive God. He knows us better than we know ourselves and will never lead us astray.”
